Why we have kids

This weekend I finally learned the real reason we have kids.  Here are some reasons I have heard before:

• To further the family line.
• The joy of being a parent.
• Nurturing young minds to make the world a better place.
• Living vicariously through your kids, seeing them do things you never could.

These are nice, but not the real reason.  This weekend I was steam cleaning the carpets upstairs and drinking a beer.  My 4 year old son came in to see how I was doing.  As he left I asked if he could do something for me.  When he came back, he had a fresh beer for me.  That's when I realized why we have kids - to bring us beer so we can continue what we're doing, be that cleaning carpets or watching tv.  ;)
